Volunteer for SWALLOW
Instead of donating money you may be willing to give some of your free time to help support this very worthwhile local cause. At SWALLOW we have a wide range of interesting and rewarding opportunities for volunteers. By giving even a modest amount of time on a regular basis you can have a significant role in helping local disabled people to enjoy life to the full.
SWALLOW is a welcoming and friendly place and our volunteers are valued and appreciated. As part of our commitment to our volunteers we are able to provide access to relevant training and many find that their experience with us is helpful in further developing their own careers.
Our volunteers get a real sense of satisfaction and enjoyment from making a positive impact. We aim to match our volunteers individually to roles which make the best use of their skills, interests and preferences. Currently there are opportunities to help at SWALLOW by serving as a Trustee, supporting the Work skills and Enterprise group, Horticulture and social gardening, Dance and Drama, Art and Crafts, Cookery classes , Exercise and fitness, Football coaching and leisure walking, fundraising and marketing. Half Marathon Runners wishing to raise money for SWALLOW through sponsorship are also very welcome.

Chrissy volunteers one morning a week at SWALLOW
I am a part-time homeopath and a mum. My brother had learning difficulties from birth and I have always been interested in working with people with disabilities. When my children got older, I decided that this was the time to get more involved.
I found out about SWALLOW on the Volunteer Centre website and I was invited for an informal chat. As a result, I tried out a session in an Arts and Crafts Class and have never left!
I really enjoy working with the members of the group. I have built up very supportive relationships with the people I work with. This helps them to feel safe, be themselves and know that they are cared about. I am not particularly artistic but this role is about more than just art – it is about building confidence and self-esteem for people. I love it!!
