We are very excited about Amanda and Steve Bachrach's incredible adventure. Today Amanda and her husband Steve, are setting off on a huge journey, from Land's End to Orkney - on their bikes!
And, as an added bonus, Amanda will be raising money for SWALLOW along the way. We spoke to her to find out more about the trip and why she chose to support SWALLOW.
First of all, thank you so much for supporting SWALLOW through this journey. Can you tell us about the plan for your trip?
Amanda: We will be cycling from Land's End to the very tip of Scotland and then going across to the Orkney Islands, it's 1200 miles in total. Our plan is to cycle 40 miles a day and we will be taking just 2 panniers on our bikes with food, kit and clothing. We will be staying in different accommodation along the way.
Why did you decide to support SWALLOW through this amazing cycle ride?
Amanda: I chose SWALLOW because my husband Steve is supporting you for the Bath Half Marathon and he put me in touch with you so it was an easy thing to start. We've lived in Midsomer Norton for years and have been aware of who you are and what you do - and I like coming to the cafe!
Have you raised money for charities before?
Amanda: The last charity I raised funds for was the Grenfell Tower relief fund, a while back. So I wanted to support a local charity this time. Steve and I are both doing the challenge and we have done cycle touring before so we should manage it ok - but it’s gratifying to be able to do something you enjoy and help others in doing so.
Amanda and Steve are setting off today, Tuesday 18th July and plan to reach their destination on 25th August. We wish them all the very best and can't wait to see their photos as they go!
