In Conversation with: Jenny, Floating Support Worker for SWALLOW

As part of our new blog series, we wanted to catch up with some of our fabulous support team to see what they love about working at SWALLOW. First up is Jenny, a Floating Support Worker who works across SWALLOW services, supporting our members to get the most out of all that life has to offer!

What’s your favourite thing about working at SWALLOW?

My favourite things about working here are how everyone is included and encouraged to be independent in their everyday lives. The variety of activities there are for people to be involved in, from art to working in the cafes and gardening. Also how appreciated we are, as members of staff.

What do you think is particularly special about supporting people with learning disabilities?

Giving people the confidence to be themselves and to do things themselves. The trust they give you in return is priceless.

What made you want to come and work at SWALLOW?

I have worked in the care sector for 19 years and having family members with learning disabilities, I wanted to help others to live as independently as they do. And I had heard good things about SWALLOW from friends that already worked here.

Do you have a favourite SWALLOW memory that you’d like to share?

There are too many to pick from! I have lots of good memories, from 1 to 1 support to do their shopping and helping with cleaning their homes, to going out on days trips to Weston Super Mare or Chew Valley.

How would you describe SWALLOW in three words?

Inclusive - Positive - Supportive

How do you relax at the end of a busy week?

I enjoy running with the local running group. I enjoy knitting and crochet - I also run the Radstock Knitters.

Thank you Jenny, it's great to hear from you and we really appreciate all that you do!
