Sun Chemical is a global business - the world’s leading provider of inks - and is also a close neighbour of SWALLOW. The company has supported our charity for years and was one of the first to join our Corporate Friends of SWALLOW scheme, when we launched it late last year.
We wanted to take the chance to chat to Sun Chemical to find out more about what they do, why they choose to support SWALLOW and also how the team let their hair down!
Can you tell us a bit about what Sun Chemical does?
Sun Chemical is a manufacturing site, making a diverse range of inks for the Digital, Circuits and Electronic Materials business. Almost everything you touch or see in your home, supermarkets or car will have Sun Chemical Ink somewhere!
How long has Sun Chemical Supported SWALLOW?
Sun Chemical has been a proud supporter of Swallow since 2012.
How would you describe SWALLOW?
SWALLOW is a charity that helps support people with learning difficulties, involving them in projects such as the Community Cafés. It helps them to develop skills with a view towards independence.
You support our charity in many different ways can you tell us about them?
We give donations to SWALLOW through various fundraising efforts. We often hold raffles at our events and do fundraising activities with the staff team.
We order soup from SWALLOW’s Radstock Café so that our staff team can enjoy a communal lunch together every week. We also give our Nectar points to SWALLOW.
This year, our Global Director of Digital Business ran the Bath Half Marathon for SWALLOW as well (see picture above).
What are the benefits to your company of involvement with SWALLOW?
Sun Chemical like to be involved in local community activities; it helps to bring together all members of staff in a very positive way.
What would you say to other local companies about being a Corporate Friend of SWALLOW?
Being a corporate friend is a “good news story” in our company – everyone can feel part of supporting a local charity with such important aims. It makes our employees feel good about the company and its approach to the local community.
What are you plans for the future?
We want to stay close to SWALLOW and do what we are able as a company and a body of employees to support SWALLOW’s efforts.
We would love to know how your staff team relax – what’s the best staff social you’ve had recently?
We have a Sports and Social Team who arrange a variety of outings and trips throughout the year, for example the Bath Races, boat trips along the canal and visits to pantomimes at Christmas.
